Maura Moynihan is an author, film producer and artist based in New York City.
She has worked for many years as a journalist and researcher in Asia, specializing in Tibet, China, Nepal, Thailand and India.
About
Ms. Moynihan worked on all four of her father’s New York Senate campaign, from 1976 to 2000. She founded Friends of Moynihan Station, and created the 2010 letters anthology “Daniel Patrick Moynihan: American Visionary” published by Public Affairs Books.
Ms. Moynihan attended high school in New Delhi when her father served as the United States Ambassador to India. From 1998 to 2002 she was Radio Free Asia’s Bureau chief in Kathmandu, Nepal. Ms. Moynihan was a communications consultant to the Rubin Museum of Art in New York from 2004-10. In 1994-5 she worked at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and was a consultant to the Museum of the City of New York’s acclaimed 2004 exhibition, “New York’s Moynihan.”
Ms. Moynihan produced the acclaimed 2018 documentary “Moynihan” which chronicles the life and legacy of Senator Moynihan. She was Executive Producer of “Fire Under the Snow” a 2008 documentary feature directed by Masako Tsumura about Palden Gyatso, a Tibetan monk who survived 33 years in a Chinese Communist prison. http://fireunderthesnowmovie.com/.
At age 23, the artist Andy Warhol put Ms. Moynihan on the cover of Interview Magazine and for 5 years she worked with Andy Warhol on Interview and Andy Warhol’s TV. Warhol encouraged her talents as a singer/songwriter. She has recorded 3 albums; “Yoga Hotel” “Bangkok Taxi” and “Bombay Superstar” and produced several music videos. Ms. Moynihan has held painting exhibitions, in Thailand, India, Nepal and New York City. In 2019, she created a mural for the Marriott Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Ms. Moynihan earned a BA from Harvard University and a Masters of Political Science from the New School. She speaks Tibetan, Hindi, Urdu and French and has published two best-selling works of fiction, “Yoga Hotel” and “Covergirl” published by ReganBooks at Harper-Collins.
